Cadcorp SIS - Support for 64-bit processors
The Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System range of products are native 32-bit applications that run on 64-bit (x64) Microsoft Windows.

Connecting
to Oracle
For non-Locator/Spatial Oracle
connections, e.g. OGC SQL92 and View Geometry Datasets, Cadcorp
recommends using the direct Oracle connection – which uses
Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O) - instead of ODBC or ADO , both of
which have more than one Oracle driver.
In testing, and in real-world use, the direct Oracle
connection has proved more suited to the needs of the SIS client
than the alternatives.

SafeNet release drivers
(USB/25 pin) for both 64-bit and 32-bit operating systems
Previously 64-bit operating systems support was
offered for USB dongle drivers only. Customers are advised to update
their drivers accordingly.

32-bit drivers (V7.3.0)
SafeNet Dongle
Drivers (V7.2.1)
Dongle drivers provided by SafeNet (V7.2.1)
have a hard-coded expiry date of 13th March 2006, after which date
network dongles will fail.
The symptoms are that the dongle stops working altogether.
The problem appears to affect network dongles and occurs if the
dongle is removed or the server is rebooted.
As the problem may not be immediately apparent but
is likely to affect all dongles, Cadcorp recommends that all users
upgrade their dongle drivers to the latest drivers issued by SafeNet.
The latest SafeNet
drivers are available to download.
Unzip the file, run the Sentinel Protection Installer
7.2.2.exe and follow the instructions.
SafeNet have
issued a statement on the compatibility of their dongles with 64bit
systems. They have released 64bit drivers for USB dongles only.
Therefore, we have to advise customers that they should only use
64bit processors and operating systems if they have a USB dongle.
Drivers for 25 pin dongles will be available
at the end of March/beginning of April.

Ordering
OS MasterMap data
With the introduction of the new MSA and
the online ordering service for OS MasterMap data, Cadcorp would
like to inform customers about the procedure they should follow
when ordering data from Ordnance Survey.
Each customer will require a 'contract' with the OS
to order any data. Once this 'contract' is established, any number
of 'orders' can be processed by the customer.
The OS will, by default, supply OS MasterMap Topographic
and OS MasterMap ITN data in a set of single gzip files for the
size specified (2km, 5km or non-geographic chunking). This means
that all gzip files in this order will contain both ITN and Topographic
data.
Cadcorp requires that all OS MasterMap products are
supplied in separate gzip files. Topographic data and ITN data must
be supplied in separate files. To do this, you must set up separate
'orders' for Topographic and ITN data within your 'contract'. Cadcorp
supports non-geographic chunking.
ITN Data
ITN data is currently supported by reading this
data dynamically through the standard Cadcorp SIS interface. We
currently do not support Change Only Updates for ITN data. You must
order a complete re-supply of your ITN data. Cadcorp is currently
developing an application to manage the use of ITN data with regards
to Road Routing Information.
Known limitation
for users of OCX applications running on WindowsNT at V6.1.782
A limitation has been discovered with the latest version of Cadcorp
SIS (V6.1.782 released 11 March 2005) when running OCX applications
that make use of the OLEDB provider. Any application attempting
to run this will result in an application failure. Cadcorp recommends
that anyone running this configuration upgrades their operating
system to Windows2000 or above. As support for Cadcorp SIS generally
on WindowsNT will be dropped at release V6.2, this bug is unlikely
to be fixed.
ESRI Named
Object Library (NOL) United Kingdom SPECIFIC
Users may have experienced shifts in the drawing of certain ESRI
shape files. The attached Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information
System ™ Named Object Library (NOL) overrides datum specific
information contained in the shape files so that data for use within
the OSGB National Grid can be displayed correctly. Users of Office
of National Statistics output area shape file data may wish to use
this file. Users should place the NOL in the root Library directory
– e.g. C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS 6.1\Libraries.

Licensing
With the release of Cadcorp SIS V6.1, it is Cadcorp’s intention
to implement a new licensing mechanism for all Cadcorp SIS products.
All Cadcorp SIS license numbers will be changed
and, as a consequence, all standalone dongles will have to be reprogrammed.
Dongle -free licence numbers will also be changed.
Prior to the release of Cadcorp SIS V6.1, all
users will be notified of this change and they will be required
to verify their existing licence details, (dongle and licence number)
with Cadcorp.
Cadcorp will then generate new licence codes
which will be sent to users by email.
Cadcorp will supply a Field Update utility
program and instructions for users to reprogram the dongles concerned.
Hardware Lock
(Dongle)
Cadcorp SIS software is supplied as standard to run with a hardware
lock, (commonly known as a dongle). The dongle, manufactured by
Rainbow, may be supplied as a 25 pin parallel port dongle (in both
standard and slim-line sizes), a USB type dongle, or even a 25 pin
parallel port dongle to manage network installations.
This dongle has major value - it represents the value of your Cadcorp
software and is
programmed for the products you have licenced from us.
Loss of your dongle constitutes a loss of the
associated Cadcorp software and the full price of the software programmed
onto the dongle would be charged to facilitate its replacement.
It is a wise precaution to insure your investment against such a
loss.
Should in the rare event your dongle fail within
the standard 12 months warranty period, it will be replaced by Cadcorp
without charge for the hardware and software upon the return and
inspection of the faulty item either direct to Cadcorp or through
your original supplier.
Freezing of
the Window during Drag Pan operations
A number of customers have reported some problems when operating
Cadcorp SIS on computers using particular video cards. The problem
manifests itself as a freezing of the Window during Drag Pan operations
and it is believed that this is caused by the graphics driver.
Graphics cards known to be affected include ATI and
also the IBM Thinkpad A30P Graphics Card.
For users experiencing these, or similar problems,
Cadcorp recommend that they use the following workaround:
On Windows 2000
- Use the right-mouse menu on the desktop and select
Properties.
- In the Display Properties dialog select the Settings
tab.
- Press the Advanced... button.
- Select the Troubleshooting tab.
- Set the Hardware Acceleration to 'None'.
On Win95/Win98:
- From My Computer, use the right-mouse menu and
select System Properties.
- Select the Performance Tab.
Press the Graphics button.
- Set the Hardware Acceleration to "None".
- It is also worth users checking if they have the
latest manufacturers driver for the graphics card they have installed.
