Professional
GIS for the power user
Cadcorp SIS Map Modeller provides the advanced GIS user with a comprehensive
set of creation, editing and modelling capabilities, operating independently
or within a departmental or enterprise-wide framework.
The Map Modeller builds upon the GIS functionality available within
the Cadcorp SIS Map Editor to include 3D modelling, Theissen polygons,
grid analysis, terrain modelling and image draping. It is aimed at
the demanding user whose requirements have previously only been available
on costly Unix platforms.
Data access
Map
Modeller supports over 160 GIS and data sources. For further information

3 Dimensional design and analysis
Advanced data modelling exploits the third dimension. Map Modeller
uses three-dimensional data for the creation of triangulated irregular
networks (TINS) and digital terrain models (DTMs). From these basic
models, surface draping of raster images and vector data over these
structures produce effective 3D representations and 'Fly-Throughs'.
Map Modeller enables the extrusion of 2D geometry into 3D models of
the real world, e.g. building outlines can be extruded based on height
values contained in a linked database.
Once the scene has been created, the whole picture can be dynamically
rotated and scaled for exploration from different vantage points.
This is taken a stage further with the Cruise control option that
enables the user to fly around the model in real time.
Underground infrastructure such as cable routes and pipe networks
can be viewed from below ground.
For digital terrain models, relief shading and enhancements to the
ambient and diffuse light levels ensure all of the terrain is shown
realistically.
Spatial analysis and thematic mapping
In addition to basic thematic and analysis tools available within
the rest of the Cadcorp SIS suite, Map Modeller adds Theissen polygons,
grid analysis, contour mapping and flow-line generation.
Theissen polygons represent areas of influence and can be generated
around specific points. For example, Theissen Analysis allows retail
stores to evaluate where their outlets should be located, based upon
census and population data.
Spatial data can be aggregated into a regular grid structure, where
each grid cell is assigned a value based on the density of the underlying
data such as temperature, soil moisture levels or any survey measurements.
The cell value can be used with formulae to query, add and subtract
grid data layers enabling sophisticated data analysis.
Map Modeller enables the generation of contour lines at any interval
from spot height information.
Flow lines representing drainage run-off can be generated and superimposed
on a map. For example, this could be used when comparing the drainage
implications of landform changes.
Queries
A query builder allows the user to build a query by picking items
from a list. Experienced users can create complex, nested formulae
for advanced analysis.
Output
Map Modeller includes the Cadcorp SIS 'Print Wizard', providing users
with unrivalled plot creation capabilities. The Wizard allows the
user to modify map orientation, titles, north points, frames, graticules,
scale bars and legends to produce exactly the map you want.
Map Modeller is fully integrated with Microsoft Windows environment,
allowing the linking and embedding of maps in MS Windows documents.
