Press ReleaseSurrey Heath Borough Council selects Cadcorp’s desktop and Web-based GIS software to support its e-government objectives. Cadcorp SIS will integrate with a wide variety of the council’s existing front and back-office applications. Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that Surrey Heath Borough Council has awarded the company a contract for the provision of Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System - desktop and Web-based software, together with implementation and training services. Under the terms of the contract, Cadcorp will deliver and assist Surrey Heath Borough Council in the implementation of a number of licences of Cadcorp SIS. These will include Cadcorp SIS Map Editor, Cadcorp SIS Map Modeller – the company’s flagship desktop GIS – and Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET – the company’s Web-based GIS software suite. Cadcorp SIS will initially be deployed in the land charges, planning and building control departments. This will be followed by the estate management and tree preservation groups and to staff in Surrey Heath’s new contact centre, which is currently under construction. In addition, the Web-based GeognoSIS.NET software will serve mapping information to staff over the council’s intranet in a bespoke application called Heathmap. From the outset, council members and the senior management team at Surrey Heath Borough Council decided to implement a corporate-wide GIS across the authority. Underpinning this decision was the recognition that GIS will be a core part of the infrastructure required to take the council forward, both in terms of its e-government objectives and of the quality of service it offers the public. “We selected Cadcorp SIS and the Web-based GeognoSIS.NET for a number of reasons”, said James Rutter, GIS manager, Surrey Heath Borough Council. “First, it’s easy to use and it’s fast at handling tasks such as digitizing vector data and handling large image files. Second, it has the ability at no extra cost, to directly read and write to over 120 native file formats and databases, including Oracle. This means that we can build a central repository in Oracle for all of our spatial data for everyone to access. Third, the Web-based GeognoSIS.NET software provides many of the facilities found in the desktop products and makes them available to a wider community over our internal intranet or the Internet.” “We are delighted that Surrey Heath Borough Council has selected Cadcorp software as the basis of its new corporate-wide GIS”, said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “I am confident that both our desktop and our Web-based products, along with our customer services, will live up to the council’s expectations and we look forward to helping them realise their GIS objectives.” About Surrey Heath Borough Council Located in the south of England, the Borough of Surrey Heath covers 36.5 square miles, with Camberley its main town and several villages set amongst wild areas of open heath and pine and birch woodlands.
