Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide its Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System software, together with implementation and training services, to the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA). The contract was awarded to Cadcorp following LFEPA’s standard tender procedure.

Cadcorp will deliver and implement both desktop and Web-based versions of its digital mapping/GIS software suite, including Cadcorp SIS OS MasterMap Loader for loading and managing Ordnance Survey MasterMap data.

Cadcorp SIS Map Editor and Map Modeller will be used by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority to provide specialist desktop users with GIS and mapping applications to support risk planning, emergency and operational planning, property and resources management, community fire safety initiatives and ‘hotspot’ analysis. In addition, Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET Web-based software will enable non-specialist users to access standard datasets (e.g. incident by date and/or type) via the intranet and to combine these with standard overlay maps, such as London borough or fire station boundaries. This includes the ability to print high quality maps locally and to add, for example, custom symbols and boundaries.

“Following our standard tender procedure for procuring GIS systems and software, we chose Cadcorp SIS for a number of reasons”, said Ray Hooper, GIS Manager, LFEPA. “Among these were the software’s complete and flexible GIS functionality, its ease of use and its ability to import and export a very wide range of proprietary GIS, CAD and database formats at no extra cost. Its facilities for managing and distributing OS MasterMap data were also key factors in our choice.”

Mike O’Neil managing director, Cadcorp, commented, “This is yet another significant UK fire and rescue service that has made the decision to base the mapping and GIS aspects of its emergency and operational planning activities on Cadcorp SIS. We are proud to welcome the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority into the Cadcorp SIS user community and we look forward to working with the Authority to bring its plans to fruition.”

Cadcorp’s UK fire service customers include: East Sussex Fire and Rescue service; Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service; West Midlands Fire Service; Strathclyde Fire Service and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Cadcorp partner’s, MIS (www.mis-es.com) and SSi (www.ssi.co.uk) use Cadcorp SIS Active X mapping controls to add mapping and GIS functionality to their products for emergency services customers.
