The shooting ground, 15km north of the city was host to the 1992 Olympic Games and the 1998 world championships. Under the heat of the Spanish sun competition began with 2 days of skeet and skeet doubles on the Olympic layouts. At the end of day 1 a score of 93 put Briton Paul Fallon in equal first place with fellow Firefighter Juhani Sahlstrom from Finland. Following a tense shoot off, it was Fallon who took the Gold Medal in his second year shooting skeet and his first international competition.

The second day brought the skeet doubles competition and more medals for the GB Firefighters. Laurie Smith claimed Bronze with Fallon awarded Bronze in the all events category. The 5 man team ‘A’, Roger Hill, Paul Hodges, Stephen Parker, Rick Wood & Lol Smith also took the team Bronze for the doubles competition. Not a bad start to the week with 1 individual Gold and 2 Bronze plus a team Bronze in the bag before the start of the trap disciplines.

3 days of trap shooting followed. At the end of the 3 days the medal count was up again with further individual and team honours. Lol Smith was back on the podium, this time collecting Gold in the Trap all events ‘B’ Division category. Next up was Neil Parsons taking Silver in the UT Single barrel with 88, only 1 target off the top spot. Roger Hill was next into the shoot offs with 3 guns competing for the Silver and Bronze in OT ‘B’ Division. Roger claimed Bronze with Australian Police Officer Barry Jane taking the Silver.

Team ‘A’ were producing some consistently good results across the Trap disciplines which reflected in the final medal count. Team Gold in the OT ‘B’ Division category set the seal on what had been a great week of competition.

This was the first experience of the World Police & Fire Games for most of the GB team. When the shooting was over the medal haul was 2 individual Gold, 1 individual Silver, 3 individual Bronze, 1 team Gold & 1 team Bronze, a total of 6 individual and 2 team awards. After such an enjoyable and successful Games, the GB Fire & Rescue team are now looking forward to Quebec in 2005.

Cadcorp is the proud sponsor of the British team and is committed to continuing its support of this championship team into the future.
