Press ReleaseCadcorp outlines OpenGIS Enhanced Web Mapping implementation The next release of Cadcorp SIS, V6.1 offers users easy access to the latest OpenGIS Consortium Web Mapping standard: Web Map Context documents. The OpenGIS Web Map Context 1.0 Specification (www.opengeospatial.org/techno/specs/03-036r2.pdf) builds on the OpenGIS Web Map Service 1.1.1 Specification (www.opengeospatial.org/techno/specs/01-068r3.pdf) to allow, as stated in the specification document, "a specific grouping of one or more maps from one or more map servers can be described in a portable, platform-independent format for storage in a repository or for transmission between clients." 'Context' documents are encoded in eXtensible MarkUp Language (XML) and include information on the map server(s) providing the layer(s), the map projection, bounding box, etc. Contributors to the specification included Cadcorp, DM Solutions Group, IONIC Software, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), GeoConnections - Natural Resources Canada, Social Change Online, and Syncline. "Building up complex configurations of disparate map layers from disparate map servers can represent a considerable investment of time and effort. The ability to easily save, restore and share these configurations is a powerful tool for end-users. Cadcorp has been actively committed to the development and implementation of OGC web specification standards since 1999. Contexts are the latest developments and as usual, rather than treat them as an academic exercise, we build them as standard into our commercial software for users to exploit. This speaks volumes for the flexibility and openness of Cadcorp SIS, it also acts as an example to the rest of the GIS community that we, and others at the forefront, are taking interoperability seriously", stated Martin Daly, Technical Director, Cadcorp. "Cadcorp's leading role in GIS interoperability and the support of Web Map Context documents gives Cadcorp SIS users the capacity for more seamless integration with new web mapping services," said Daniel Morissette, VP of Research and Development at DM Solutions Group. "With just a few clicks users can exchange WMS map compositions with a growing number of Web mapping sites that also support Web Map Context documents, including those powered by DM Solution's Chameleon technology." Cadcorp SIS V6.1 will be previewed at GeoSolutions, Earls Court 1, London, in September 2003. More About Cadcorp SIS Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System - is a suite of Windows-based and Web-enabled end user and developer digital mapping and geographic information system (GIS) software products. The desktop suite comprises: Map Viewer, which provides support for over 50 graphic and data formats, thematic and hard copy; Map Manager, which provides the mainstream user the ability to view, explore, query, symbolise and print digital map and associated tabular data; Map Editor, which in addition to the facilities provided by Map Manager, provides the GIS data custodian with tools to view, manage and edit map and tabular data; and Map Modeller, which adds 3D modelling, terrain analysis and several thematic and analytic mapping tools. ActiveX based developer toolkits and Viewer, Manager and Modeller based runtime licences are popular products for the development and implementation of bespoke applications by third parties that take advantage of Cadcorp’s GIS know-how. Cadcorp ASC (Active Server Component) extends the functionality of Cadcorp SIS for use over the Internet or a company-wide intranet. It is a dynamic, server-side Web-based GIS, not merely a map-publishing tool for pre-authored images. Cadcorp ASC provides a true, interactive Web-based solution for real time map creation and analysis. Cadcorp SIS OS MasterMap Loader is supplied with Cadcorp SIS Map Modeller for the loading and management of Ordnance Survey MasterMap data in relational databases. Cadcorp apSIS is programmable component software for the development of geospatial applications for the desktop and Pocket PC platforms. Cadcorp mSIS is a data collection package that incorporates a desktop data capture management application and a Pocket PC based data collection tool.
