Cadcorp outlines OpenGIS Enhanced Web Mapping implementation

The next release of Cadcorp SIS, V6.1 offers users easy access to the latest OpenGIS Consortium Web Mapping standard: Web Map Context documents.

The OpenGIS Web Map Context 1.0 Specification (www.opengeospatial.org/techno/specs/03-036r2.pdf) builds on the OpenGIS Web Map Service 1.1.1 Specification (www.opengeospatial.org/techno/specs/01-068r3.pdf) to allow, as stated in the specification document, "a specific grouping of one or more maps from one or more map servers can be described in a portable, platform-independent format for storage in a repository or for transmission between clients." 'Context' documents are encoded in eXtensible MarkUp Language (XML) and include information on the map server(s) providing the layer(s), the map projection, bounding box, etc. Contributors to the specification included Cadcorp, DM Solutions Group, IONIC Software, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), GeoConnections - Natural Resources Canada, Social Change Online, and Syncline.

Cadcorp SIS V6.1 will be previewed at GeoSolutions, Earls Court 1, London, in September 2003.
