UK marine GIS experts Metoc sign as a Cadcorp Business Partner

Cadcorp, developer of the pioneering Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System suite of GIS software, is extremely pleased to announce that Metoc plc has become a Cadcorp business partner. Metoc will be using Cadcorp SIS for the development of GIS solutions for marine applications.

Metoc’s GIS and Informatics Group is at the forefront of using geographic information (GI) technology and modelling in the marine environment, with clients in the telecoms, power and energy sector, the marine renewable energy sector and the water industry. Metoc offers a “one-stop-shop" and use specialist knowledge and experience to develop and deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions that incorporate bespoke GIS-based data management and decision-making tools.

This new Cadcorp - Metoc business relationship is one of many synergies. Metoc and Cadcorp are both British enterprises. Both are similar in size. Metoc offers excellent marine industry expertise and access to rich marine data, while Cadcorp SIS has proven a popular GIS choice of UK marine users, (including the Port of London , Associated British Ports Southampton, Harwich Haven, The Hydrospatial and Coastguard Agency and the Channel Coastal Observatory). Metoc has a track record in GIS solutions development, while Cadcorp SIS has been very successfully utilised by GIS solutions developers because of its functional richness, wide ranging data support and adherence to open standards.

Collaboration between Cadcorp and Metoc was first demonstrated at a recent seminar entitled “Important new developments in marine and coastal GIS”, organised by Metoc, and co-sponsored by the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO). The seminar was attended by over 140 delegates who work with marine and coastal data or are involved in marine and coastal projects, the event commenced with a keynote speech from Dr Wyn Williams, the Chief Executive of the UKHO.

Significantly for marine customers, Metoc recently launched SeaZone, which makes data available to the marine scientist and engineer in a GIS friendly format. The new service combines UKHO data with data from Metoc and a range of other UK agencies - the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC), the Joint Nature Conservation Council (JNCC), the Crown Estate and the Environment Agency. By providing a packaged data-set that are ready to use, GIS users can obtain essential data efficiently and quickly.

Cadcorp mSIS is a data collection package that incorporates a desktop data capture management application and a Pocket PC based data collection tool.
