IGN France International buys more Cadcorp licenses as work for the OS increases

IGN FI the French national mapping agency, continue to purchase more Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System licenses for their new project to maintain and update geographic information for the British Ordnance Survey. The 20 new licenses will be used to update urban map information, which is matched to recent aerial photographs to ensure accuracy. This order now puts IGN's holding of Cadcorp SIS up to 76 seats.

As one of three organisations to win contracts, IGN FI are pleased to have been selected for this five year project. All pre-contract work was carried out by IGN using Cadcorp SIS which proved invaluable in ensuring the accuracy and productivity required. The ability to read OS data on-the-fly, and being able to locate and update exactly the geographic area specified, provided IGN with the rapid mapping techniques demanded by this project. Also important was the ability to load CITF, the internal format used by Ordnance Survey, into Cadcorp SIS.

IGN have developed an interactive link between Cadcorp SIS and software from a French stereo digitising company called 3D Images. The result is a new package called TopStereo, which is being marketed by both IGN and Geomod, the Cadcorp business partner in France.

IGN’s development team have included dynamic links with Cadcorp SIS which also allows display and interaction on one or two screens depending on the user’s preference. TopStereo provides simple photogrammetric procedures from digital photographs, high accuracy, and the production of automatic aerial triangulation. Thus, all the database set up, production and run-time procedures are integrated into one topographically structured system.

“A great deal of the credit for this business must go to our French distributor Geomod, who have worked closely with this prestigious French customer to deploy Cadcorp SIS,” stated Alan Plumley, European sales and business manager, Cadcorp. “IGN-FI is very active in many cartographic and GIS projects around the world. We are proud that Cadcorp SIS has been selected by them as a production tool and that we are seeing much repeat business,” he added.
