Cadcorp first to deploy ECW on the Pocket PC

Cadcorp apSIS - applications for SIS - is the first GIS Software Developer Kit (SDK) to feature support for ER Mapper's ECW format on the Pocket PC platform. The integration of ECW into the pioneering OpenGIS conformant toolkit is a strong addition to the Cadcorp apSIS SDK. Developers using Cadcorp apSIS will now be able to harness the sophisticated compression technology, which was previously only available on the desktop, on the Pocket PC 2002 platform. ECW images, typically hundreds of megabytes in size, can be displayed and used in real-time on Intel StrongArm hardware such as the Compaq IPAQ. Users can also connect to remote ER Mapper Image Web Servers to obtain their aerial photography, or base map data.

"This is the result of a close working relationship with ER Mapper, driven through the desire to provide the very best GIS capabililties for mobile or field workers at modest cost. Applications written using Cadcorp apSIS, will now implement and conform to more OpenGIS specifications than any other COM based GIS toolkit. ECW support is yet another example of Cadcorp's commitment to providing the very best GIS functionality." said Simon Doyle, Cadcorp's Product Release Co-ordinator.

Cadcorp apSIS is a suite of programmable Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) objects and controls, which gives the developer the capability to add mapping and GIS capabilities to their bespoke applications. Competitor products include ESRI’s Map Objects and Mapinfo’s MapX. It will be released at GIS2002 in London.

At the heart of the Cadcorp apSIS Software Developer Kit (SDK) is the apSIS ActiveX control. The control and apSIS COM objects provide sophisticated 'geo-spatial' functionality in the Windows environment.

Because the apSIS SDK has a comprehensive Application Programming Interface (API), developers can get at exactly the functionality they require in order to build bespoke, or embedded, GIS applications.

Cadcorp apSIS has received extensive OpenGIS conformance which reinforces the fact that apSIS developers are using the most pioneering, inter-operable GIS tool kit in the market.

Cadcorp apSIS offers:

  • Extensive Co-ordinate System support
  • Support for multiple vector, raster and database formats, including Ordnance Survey NTF and Cadcorp OS MasterMap database support as standard
  • Data creation and editing
  • Thematic mapping and visualisation
  • Scaleable 'thin-client' applications for your enterprise
  • Comprehensive support files and documentation
  • Pioneering OpenGIS conformance
