Press ReleaseCadcorp GIS software now certified conformant for Grid Coverages Cadcorp, the developer of the popular Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System range of Windows based GIS software has passed a further OpenGIS conformance test, the fourth to date. In July 2002, the OpenGIS Consortium (OGC) announced that Cadcorp SIS software suite and the Microsoft COM based Cadcorp apSIS developer toolkit were certified conformant with the OpenGIS Grid Coverages specification. The Grid Coverages specification defines interfaces for accessing gridded data (e.g. monochrome scanned maps, colour aerial photography, multi-band satellite imagery, and 3D digital elevation models) using COM components. The Cadcorp implementation allows Cadcorp SIS and Cadcorp apSIS software to pan, zoom and query the Grid Coverage data dynamically, using optimisations such as on-the-fly resampling, and data pyramids. The OpenGIS Grid Coverage specification achieves the promise of open interoperability, without having to sacrifice processing efficiency or functional richness. Grid Coverages are georeferenced, thus allowing Cadcorp software users to show the gridded data overlaid with vector data (which can be accessed using the OpenGIS Simple Features interface) and/or other gridded/raster data. The original OpenGIS Grid Coverages Implementation Specification was based on pioneering work carried out by Cadcorp and PCI Geomatics of Canada. OGC Implementation Specifications act as guidelines for GIS software vendors seeking to develop OpenGIS conformant software. Cadcorp in originally co-authoring this specification, has now gone two stages further by implementing Grid Coverages in commercial software and applying for and gaining a conformance certificate. Carl Reed, PhD, Executive Director OGC Specification Program, commented "We at the OGC are very appreciative of the effort and work CadCorp has done in integrating the OpenGIS(R) Grid Coverages specification into their software. Vendor implementation of OpenGIS Specifications is a key measure of success and CadCorp has taken a leadership role in implementing this specification." “Our vigorous involvement with many aspects of OGC work is seen as central to the future technical direction of Cadcorp and our GIS products. We are pleased to announce that this is our fourth distinct OpenGIS conformance certificate, a record that is currently unrivalled in the marketplace. Cadcorp is committed to ensuring that all of our current implementations will be certified as conformant as and when the relevant conformance tests are available”, stated Martin Daly, Technical Director, Cadcorp. Cadcorp GIS products are also certified conformant for Simple Features (OLE-COM and OLE-DB Provider) and Coordinate Transformation Services. About Cadcorp SIS Cadcorp SIS - Spatial Information System - is a suite of Windows-based and Web-enabled end user and developer digital mapping and geographic information system (GIS) software products. The desktop suite comprises: Map Viewer, which provides support for over 50 graphic and data formats, thematics and hard copy; Map Manager, which provides the mainstream user the ability to view, explore, query, symbolise and print digital map and associated tabular data; Map Editor, which in addition to the facilities provided by Map Manager, provides the GIS data custodian with tools to view, manage and edit map and tabular data; and Map Modeller, which adds 3D modelling, terrain analysis and several thematic and analytic mapping tools. ActiveX based developer toolkits and Viewer, Manager and Modeller based runtime licences are popular products for the development and implementation of bespoke applications by third parties that take advantage of Cadcorp’s GIS know-how. Cadcorp ASC (Active Server Component) extends the functionality of Cadcorp SIS for use over the Internet or a company-wide intranet. It is a dynamic, server-side Web-based GIS, not merely a map-publishing tool for pre-authored images. Cadcorp ASC provides a true, interactive Web-based solution for real time map creation and analysis. Cadcorp SIS MasterMap Loader is supplied with Map Modeller for the loading and management of OS MasterMap data in relational databases. Cadcorp apSIS is programmable component software for the development of geospatial applications for the desktop and Pocket PC platforms. Cadcorp mSIS is a data collection package that incorporates a desktop data capture management application and a Pocket PC based data collection tool. About Cadcorp Established in 1991, Cadcorp is a leading developer of digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software. With offices in the USA and UK, Cadcorp’s distribution and VAR network stretches worldwide. The company also plays a pivotal technical role in the OpenGIS Consortium. Cadcorp SIS is currently the only complete product family to attain OpenGIS conformance certification. Cadcorp SIS (Spatial Information System) is a range of software modules covering spatial data viewing, data management, data editing, data modelling and analysis. Cadcorp SIS ActiveX components are available for embedding into third party systems. Cadcorp ASC is an Internet/intranet developer toolkit designed for Web based GIS solutions. Cadcorp SIS applications exist in municipal government, central government, emergency services, insurance, oil & natural gas, mapping and surveying, commerce, broadcasting and many other markets. About OGC The Open GIS Consortium, Inc. (OGC) is an international, not-for-profit industry organisation dedicated to the full integration of geospatial data and geoprocessing resources into mainstream computing. In addition to developing the Open GIS Specification in the OGC technical committee, OGC works to inform the geoprocessing community about open geoprocessing issues and developments and promotes the widespread use of interoperable, commercial geoprocessing software, on a world-wide basis. OGC currently has some 300 members, split roughly 50/50 between the USA and the rest of the world. Members include geoprocessing software developers, IT industry leaders and government agencies, including the UK’s Ordnance Survey.
